Like the waterways that have defined South Berwick since it was first settled, the stream of creative people who have lived here have shaped the unique character of our little town. South Berwick is now home base to nationally recognized singer – songwriter Jenn Adams. Kansas born, Jenn lived in Montana and then Nashville before making her way to South Berwick last fall.
Jenn’s music is a fine blend of folk, jazz, and blues that combines her notable talent as a guitarist, her clear expressive voice, and lyrics that tell poetic stories of home, travel, and relationships. Jenn will be sharing the stage at the Elysium Folk Club in Rollinsford this Saturday night with Dan Walker and Charlie Strater in a Songwriter in the Round performance.
Jenn’s life in music began when her parents gave her a guitar when she was six years old. She immediately began writing songs and participated in music all through school, including jazz band in high school and in the jazz department at the University of Montana. She received a degree in anthropology and did an eight year stint as editor of a mineral magazine.
A friendship with a hand drum maker resulted in her meeting and then touring with keyboardist Scott Fitzgerald. Since then she has shared the stage with Taj Mahal, Richie Havens, Greg Brown, and Patty Larkin, and toured the west and Europe. She has released three CDs; her newest, Under the Gypsy Sky is available on her web site and locally at Bull Moose Records in Portsmouth. She has performed locally at the Press Room and Redhook Brewery.
Jenn is finding the South Berwick region to be a nourishing place for her as a musician because of the vibrant music scene, creative spirit, and open minded people she has encountered here. She is happy to have a great market downtown and loves going out to Pepperland Cafe.
Jenn is looking forward to playing at Elysium Folk Club this Friday where she will perform with Dan Walker and Charlie Strater. She describes the performance as a smörgåsbord with the three musicians playing together, swapping instruments, and experimenting with the synergy that results. Jenn enjoys the Folk Club’s intimate atmosphere that allows her to engage with the audience and gives the audience an up close and personal experience of live music.
