New & Improved the236diner

the236diner now has a community events calendar, where all things South Berwick can be listed. I hope this will become a central place to find out about what is happening in the community. Check it out to see what’s going on and make sure you get your events, meetings, or other happenings listed.

You can get to it on the right menu by clicking on Events Calendar under the “Other Stuff” heading. Once there, you will see a link with instructions for submitting events.

Coming next: A directory of South Berwick with links to government, organizations, businesses and whatever else is important.

As a South Berwick resident, I have been looking for something like this!! What a great idea, thanks for a great website!

Looking forward to visiting it regularly

I love the improvements. Through the calendar I found out about
Elysium Arts. As newcomers to South Berwick from Nottingham,
we’ve been looking for a music community, this sounds like just
what we’ve been wanting to be a part of. Can’t wait to get over there!
Thanks so much for being a great weaver in the fabric of South Berwick
    and the community surrounds!

    Hi,

All this talk on this website about South Berwick businesses reminds me once again, that we have got to get back our Business Listings. We used to have someone who published a booklet that I would use for reference whenever I needed something, to facilitate using a South Berwick business prior to looking elsewhere. Can we have a South Berwick Business Listing on this website? If we are not aware of what we have available for existing businesses, how can we support them? If this website cannot support such a list, do we have the means to produce another South Berwick Busininess Listing Booklet?

    BAK4Coffee,

That is the next thing I plan for the web site. I will have a searchable directory for local businesses and organizations. I’m researching the technology now and hope to get it started in April. I miss the business listings.

South Berwick also has an Economic Develop Committee, appointed by the town council, that has been working on a new directory of South Berwick businesses. The EDC members, all volunteers, are Dennis Fontaine, Mimi Demers, Steve Einstein, Cliff Cleary, Mike Lassell, Douglas Letellier, Karyn Morin, Susan Pullar, and Katherine Wolfe, and they’ve been working on this for over a year. (They meet monthly in town hall– meeting times available at town office.) I am not sure when the planned directory will be published, but we can all cheer them on with this project. Maybe there’s even a way to coordinate info with the blog’s directory? The EDC has also spent time organizing a South Berwick Board of Trade, which has had one meeting so far and welcomes new members and everyone’s support. Meanwhile, another group, the JEM Committee (nonprofit that owns the house that contains the library) is just about to bring out a walking tour brochure of Sarah Orne Jewett sites in downtown South Berwick. Published with donations from local businesses and groups, it will be available this spring. SOOooo– there is good stuff going on!
