Volunteer: South Berwick Volunteer Network

Want to do something to help a neighbor? South Berwick Volunteer Network (SBVN) needs volunteer drivers. SBVN is a nonprofit organization that offers free transportation to local residents who need a ride to medical appointments. Usually, drivers are assigned one day per month (M-F). The average appointment requires about 2 hours of volunteer time. More residents need the service so the current volunteers are doing double duty. They could really use your help.

For more information about volunteering, or if you are a South Berwick resident needing a ride, please call (207)384-3311. The South Berwick Rotary Club and Rotary Foundation also provides financial support for wheelchair van transportation to medical appointments. Please call 384-3311 to schedule van service.

This is a tremendous service for our community. I know, because we have had to call on it quite a few times. Having an 86 year old mom that lives with us, that has to go to dialysis 3 times a week is tough. Figuring out the transportation schedule isn’t always easy. We can make the majority of the trips but on those unique occasions there isn’t a lot of options, and this service has allowed us peace of mind. As everyone, we are busy with work, two kids that are active in school and sports, and the normal life schedule. Sometimes there are conflicts. To my mom though, this is a transportation issue that mandates her health, life or death. There is no option. Thank goodness for the volunteers that are able to help us on those times so that we are able to fill all the holes in scheduling. We can’t thank the volunteers enough and can’t say enough how much this service ease’s our concerns. Truly is a life saver

Joyce, on behalf of the South Berwick Volunteer Network, thank you for your gracious comments. Stories like yours are rewarding for our unpaid volunteers who so generously give of their time and treasure to ensure that their neighbors have free transportation for medical appointments. We are fortunate to have excellent medical services within our community and the immediate area. Without the Volunteer Network, these services may not be accessible to some of our clients. New drivers are always welcome. For more information about driving or available services call 384-3311. A volunteer will return your call.
