Rant: A very long winter

It’s been a long winter. This is my house and yes, the snow is still almost to the top of the picket fence. It’s hard to believe that it will be April in two days. Oh, for the sound of peepers and the sight of new green growth.

What’s that saying about March? “In like a lion, out like a lamb?” This year it’s more like “In like a lion, out like a big horn sheep.”

Finally some relief from the snow, it is finally melting and I can see my yard. Oh well, the only thing that the snow did was it at least made the yard a little presentable, but one good snow fall in the beginning of the season would have been enough for that.

Now I will have to do some work to the yard. At least I can put off mowing until I feel like it, unlike shoveling.

Ok the wind is a bit much, but we don’t have to shovel the wind. I like the comment about the big horn sheep. Very appropriate for this year.

Molly & Sam - I know how you feel. I never realized I would appreciate seeing the ground as much as I do today. As I walk around the yard (trying to ignore the wind gusts), I can see tulips, daylilies, and assorted plants inching up from the soil. Can it be that this very long winter is finally behind us? April can play some cruel jokes (like last year) but for today I am going to enjoy the thought that Spring has finally arrived.

Today I was out inspecting my yard and celebrating the bare ground where the snow has begun to melt. Sam, you are right, snow covers much. Now I see there are soggy leaves everywhere and lumpy patches from the mole colony that tunnels through my yard. MaryV, I too was enjoying seeing the shoots and the brave little crocuses. Spring is here.

It’s an exciting time at our house as we bought our first home in January when the ground was covered in a thick blanket of snow. Over the last few days we’ve gotten the first look at our first grass. It’s exciting and scary at the same time! There’s a lot.. no, a TON of work to be done! It sure will be a busy spring!

Nick-Congratulations on the new house. I once moved into a house in the winter and it was great to discover flowers and plants that were there as the snow melted.

Now I can finally take down our Christmas lights!!! =)

    Thanks Molly,

It’s kind of like finding the toy at the bottom of the cereal box.

    I live on a corner.
The only things I discover are the items of trash people drop when they walk past.
I swear I pull a bag full of soda cans, cups, cigarrette packs, chip bags, etc every year.
I wish people would be more considerate.
