Summer in South Berwick: What do you love about it?

Yesterday I got up and went over to Hamilton House to stroll around the garden, walk along the Salmon Falls River, and drink in the smell of new mown hay.  It’s one of my favorite things to do on a sunny summer day.

What do love about South Berwick in the summer?

    Home town feel.

Going to Aggies for ice cream in the evening and running into friends and acquaintances…swatting mosquitoes is more tolerable among friends, and the ice cream is worth waiting in line for.

The other night I was taking a walk with my daughters, who were both pushing their scooters. One of my kids took a tumble. The injury was very minor but she was awfully upset and she was crying. As we were walking home, two people, strangers to us, went out of their way to ask if we needed help, and offered us a ride home. That neighborliness is one of many things I love about this town. I’ve lived here more than 20 years and I have yet to meet anyone from South Berwick who I couldn’t ask for help in a pinch. Underneath our political disagreements we are still a very decent bunch, I think.
