So many articles here, so hard to sift through them. One that sticks out is the Maine Property Tax and Rent Refund Program…
So last year if you paid more then 4% of your household income on Property Taxes, you got a rebate check from the State. This year of course the rules changed to save the State some money, not the citizens. Now if you pay more then 4% in Property Taxes from your household income, you must make less then 80K to qualify. It just doesn’t make sense. In such hard times, instead of making cuts at the State level, they change their policies to make sure they don’t pay out as much to the Citizens.

I’ve been gone from this blog for a while…but I see that the school district has a posting for an assistant to the assistant superintendent/ receptionist.
Now, how many assistants and receptionist do we need in that new building behind the Middle School?…I think we’re going to out grow it soon.
Does anyone multitask in that office? Or do we just keep hiring more people to do what others can’t.
Please check out our organization chart for MSAD35.

Although it is misleading, I believe that position is an Administrative Assistant to the Assist. Supt. She is also acts as the receptionist. They seem to be replacing the person who currently holds this position, not adding a new one.

I know from attending several of the school board meetings that even though it may seem like they are over-staffed or have redundant positions, the justification is that ‘the state allows it’. Makes it hard to suggest cuts or more cost-effective ways of doing business….

Does anyone know anything about a new town manager? At a meeting this evening, someone brought up a rumor they’d heard about the most recent town manager being rehired? I can’t believe it is true, but stranger things have happened…

Wow, local papers are on the internet? (^tongue-in-cheek). I know that, Anonymous. Just thought someone might have the info. I don’t care a fig about who’s hired. Just thought I’d try to squelch a rumor.

LJ,
From Fosters on Saturday:
Among the job opportunities he (Grossman)has come across? Town manager of South Berwick.
While surfing the Internet, he saw a posting for the manager’s job on the Maine Municipal Association website — and he said he plans on applying for the position.
The chances of the council actually offering him job are close to zero — the council is hoping to hire a new manager by the end of the year and the terms of the three councilors who asked for his resignation do not expire until after the November election — but in the event he is offered the job, he said he would take it.
That said, he added, “I don’t think they want to hire me back.”
