Holiday Spirit: Helping Others

Some of the 900+  frozen turkeys that are going into food boxes this week to provide a traditional Thanksgiving dinner  for families experiencing difficult times.

The York County Shelter in Alfred is expecting between 900 and 1000 families to request  food boxes for Thanksgiving.  A local group has pledged to donate funds to pay for 350 of the turkeys that will be included in the food boxes.

People caring to help with this effort may write a check to The York County Shelter Programs and mail it to South Berwick resident Sandy Agrafiotis who is managing this effort. Her address is 548 Emery’s Bridge Road.

Any donation not received this week will certainly be put to good use.  Nearly the same number of boxes will be provided again at Christmas.

Anyone wanting  information about other ways to help the shelter and the  food pantry may get in touch with Sandy at 207 676-2728 or by email at Sandy Agrafiotis@earthlink.net. There is a need for Christmas gifts for shelter residents and other clients who receive help from the Alfred agency.
