Hot Night, Warm Town: Community Party Tonight.

hot-night119.jpg

Today is the day for South Berwick to rally together to raise money for the Town Fuel Fund so everyone can stay warm this winter.

Here are the top ten reasons to join the party:

10.  It’s the middle of the winter in Maine and it’s good to get out to enjoy food, music, and friends and you are all invited!

9.  Russell Tarason has generously donated the Ballroom at Wadleigh Falls for the event.  This historic  and beautiful room has hosted South Berwick events for generations, and at times has seen roller skating, movies, and boxing matches.  If you’ve never seen it or haven’t seen it in a long time, now’s your chance.

The Ballroom is upstairs in the downtown business block, the door is to the right of South Berwick House of Pizza.

8.  This is a chance to enjoy food, drink, and music and help out your neighbors.  Keith Fletcher and Cathy King will be providing live music during the afternoon and into the evening, from 5 – 8,  Pepperland Cafe will be providing a cash bar, and finger foods will be on offer from Nature’s Way Market, Brixham General Store, the Lunch Box, Catered Event, and from good cooks from all around South Berwick.

7.   The raffle and auction give you a chance to get some necessities and to help out.  All proceeds from the event will go to the Town’s fuel fund to help those who need fuel assistance.  You will be able to try your luck at a raffle or bid in the auction.  Some of the useful items on offer include  firewood, a home energy audit, horse manure for your garden, a will, bookkeeping services and more.  Check out a list of more of the items below.

6.   The money raised at this event will help leverage more money.  P. Gagnon & Son has challenged its customers to raise $3500 for the company’s fuel assistant fund and if they do,  P. Gagnon will match that $3500, making $7000 available as vouchers for fuel assistance through the Towns.  P. Gagnon has stepped forward to say that money raised at tonight’s event will be considered part of the match.  So if we are generous tonight, we can assure that the match is made and P. Gagnon’s full pledge becomes available.

5.   This is a child friendly event.  From 3 to 5 pm the hall will be open, with light snacks, music and crafts led by Nora Irvine, face painting provided by students from Marshwood Middle School, painting led by Julie Parker.   There are some raffle and auction items that will really appeal to families including gift certificates to Little Hat Company, gift certificates for ChildLight Yoga classes, Sammie Hayne’s music CDs, a week at Berwick Academy’s summer multi-sports day camp, gift certificates to Kittery Trading Post and much more.  Children are also welcome for the 5-8 portion of the evening.

3.  The event is at a ballroom, but it’s come as you are.  If you are dressed for a ball, come that way, or if like most of us, you are wearing the Maine winter outfit of denim, wool and fleece, come that way.  This is a relaxed time to get together and have fun!

 2.  Yes, the event is to raise money, but more importantly it is to have a chance to pull together as a community during tough times.  So come if you can give a lot or if you can only give a little.  South Berwick residents have weathered  tough times in the past by helping each other.  (And even a $1 raffle ticket could win you a great item!)

1.  Did I say, it’s the middle of the winter in Maine and it’s good to get out to enjoy food, music, and friends and you are all invited?
