We are still doing the math and checking it twice, but we know this community raised over $4700 for the Town’s fuel assistance fund at the Hot Night, Warm Night event sponsored by Keep South Berwick Warm on Saturday, January 24, 2009.
P. Gagnon & Son challenged its customers to raise $3500 for the company’s fuel assistant fund that P. Gagnon would match, making $7000 available as vouchers for fuel assistance. To support this event, P. Gagnon stepped forward to say that money raised at this event would be considered part of the match. We did it. We made the match so that the $3500 pledged by P. Gagnon will be available to area residents through vouchers.

It was a wonderful warm event. People of all ages and from all walks of life came together to support the Town and to assure that there is assistance available to those who are struggling to stay warm. Thanks to auctioneers Harvey and Paula Bennett for their expertise and hard work. Thanks to all who gave donations for the auction and raffle, to those who helped with setting up and making it a fun and successful event, to those who came and generously participated in the raffle and auction. Well over 100 individuals and businesses contributed to the event. We are still putting together the thank you list that will be published here in the coming days.

It was lovely to spend the evening at the Ballroom at Wadleigh Falls, a historic place that has seen South Berwick residents come together to celebrate and support each other for generations. Thanks to Russell Tarason for donating the space. Thanks to Ron Boivin for the heavy lifting. Thanks to Keith Fletcher and Cathy King for the wonderful music. Thanks to Pepperland Cafe, Nature’s Way Market, Brixham General Store, Smiley’s Beverage Center, and all of those who baked treats*. You all helped to make it a great party.
If you missed the event but still want to help, you can. The Town of South Berwick’s fuel fund is designated to provide assistance to residents and is distributed in accordance with the policies of the Social Services Department of the Town of South Berwick. Contributions to the fuel fund are tax deductible to the fullest extent permitted by law.
