Achieving Dreams and Reflecting Values: Economic Development in South Berwick

At its next regular meeting, the South Berwick Economic Development Committee will hear from consultants Chuck Lawton and Frank O’Hara of Planning Decisions about possible strategies for the Town that would both meet the demands of the marketplace and the interests and values of residents.  The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 8, 2009, in the Auditorium Hall of Town Hall at 7:00 p.m.

The Economic Development Committee engaged Planning Decisions last summer to help them set local development goals.  The Committee and consultants have worked together to solicit ideas and opinions of residents through interviews and public meetings.  The results of this first phase of the research have been summarized in two memos available on the Town web site .   The two memos are the “Executive Summary: Opinion Leader Interviews” (4 pages) and “Opinion Leader Survey Results. (29 pages)

The Economic Development Committee is now moving on to see how the community values can be achieved in the new economic climate.  The Committee’s objective is to set an economic development strategy for the town that can achieve desired growth in a way which reflects the values and desires of local residents.  The public is invited to attend this meeting and participate in the process.

For more information on the process, contact Jim Fisk, the Director of Planning and Economic Development at 384-3300 x 118 or jfisk@sbmaine.us.
