April Vernal Pools
April is all about Vernal Pools and their riches: Fairy shrimp, caddis fly cases, egg masses of wood frogs and salamanders, to mention a few. Please bring the kids, but no dogs!
April 18th – 9:30-11:30am – Vernal Pools – Tatnic Woods
Saturday, April 18, 9:30 am Tatnic Woods has a high concentration of vernal pools and this is always one of our favorite walks. Meet at our right of way on Tatnic Road, between Allen and Cheney Woods Roads. Led by Sue Bickford. No rain date.
April 25th – 1:00-3:00pm – Vernal Pools – Rocky Hills-This hike has been canceled.
May 1st – 1:00-3:00pm – Walk and Learn – Douglas Memorial Woods
Friday, May 1st, 1-3 pm, Douglas Memorial Woods
Walk & Learn in Douglas Memorial Woods in Eliot. Meet in the Children’s room of the Fogg Memorial Library. Board member Jennifer Fox will lead children (and a parent if younger than 6) on a walk to explore and make observations in the Woods. We’ll then head back to the library where Nicole LaBranche will show the children what resources the library has to help them learn more.
May 2nd – 2:00-4:00pm – Wildflower Walk – Orris Falls

Search the woods for early spring beauties such as Trillium, Jack-in-the-pulpit and Trout Lily. Meet at Orris Falls trailhead on Thurrell Road. Rain date Sunday, May 3.
Sunday May 17, 2-4 pm Bauneg Beg Mountain
The new trail to the mountaintop from Bauneg Beg Hill Road winds through beech woods filled with a special light as their leaves begin to unfurl in May. We will meet at the parking lot on Fox Farm Hill Road and carpool to the Bauneg Beg Hill Road trailhead, then hike to the tops of both peaks before descending to the parking lot. Bauneg Beg Mountain is an excellent family hiking destination, the distances are short and the climbs not steep. No rain date.
