Signs of Summer

Flowers are starting to bloom, grass is getting green, and local businesses are gearing up for summer:

Nature’s Way Market’s summer hours are here.  The Market is open Monday through Saturday from 8 am until 9 pm and on Sundays from 8 am to 8 pm.   The meat and seafood department can supply your barbecue with tasty treats.  The Market sells foods from local farmers and suppliers to help put local produce on your table.  Stop in and get a flyer with weekly specials to cut the cost of eating well.  The Market is also well stocked with Pay-As-You-Throw bags.

Riverside Farm Stand and Greenhouse, is opening this Thursday, 4/23 at 10:00 AM. Riverside Farm is one of the oldest family run farms in Southern Maine.  Gregg Harrington, who works at Riverside Farm describes their plans for the beginning of the season,  ” We are excited to offer our own parsnips to start the fresh produce season.   We also offer delicious home made chicken pot pies and fresh bread baked daily.  With a wide assortment of jams and relishes that we make ourselves, combined with beautiful spring flower combo baskets, bedding plants, and perennials, we have something for everyone to start the season.   Coming soon, our own asparagus and vegetable plants for your own “eat local” garden!”  Riverside Farm Stand and Greenhouse, Rt 4 North Berwick ME, 207-676-2868 (4 miles past the Links at Outlook golf course in South Berwick)

Aggie’s at 106 Agamenticus Road, opened for the season on April 18. They are open daily from noon until 9 pm and on Saturday’s from 11 am until 9 pm.  Ice cream and summer go together.  As they say, “A little off the beaten path, but well worth the trip.”

    Great bunch of businesses we have. I’ve also had the fun when downtown this month to discover the new Union Store, a thrift shop that benefits a local nonprofit. What a nice shop, friendly people, lots of wonderful bargains, and all helping a good cause.
