South Berwick Public Library News May 7, 2009

News from your Library for the week of May 7, 2009, brought to you by Friends of the South Berwick Public Library

New Library at St. Michael’s
The Friends of the Library encourage townspeople to attend a public meeting about a new library being hosted by the South Berwick Town Council on Wednesday, May 13, at 7 pm in Auditorium Hall. Among those present to answer questions will be members of the Town Building Committee; representatives from JCJ, the architectural firm hired to assess the St. Michael’s building; members of the Library Advisory Board; and individuals who have been working on funding. This is an opportunity for residents to find out what questions have been asked and answered, to ask questions of their own, and to comment. Over the winter, JCJ assessed the feasibility of using the former church building as a library ? addressing moiisture and structural issues, access, flexibility for expansion, energy efficiency, code requirements, and library requirements. As a result of that assessment, the Building Committee recently recommended to the Town Council that the building be converted into the new library. The Friends hope everyone will participate in this public process by coming to listen, question and comment.

Book Sale
Don’t forget, the Annual Book Sale is this Saturday, May 9, from 9 am-1 pm. (Rain date May 16.) This is a major fundraiser for the Friends, who provide financial support for Library programs and supplement the Library budget with purchases of books and office equipment.
