The Pumpkinman Triathlon Festival will be in town this weekend, September 12 and 13. The sprint and half iron distance races will draw 1000 athletes and at least an equal number of spectators to South Berwick over the two days of the festival, according to race organizer Kat Donatello. In its third year, the triathlon has grown steadily and receives acclaim from athletes from near and far.
Saturday’s sprint distance race consists of a 1/3 mile swim, 14 mile bike, and 3 mile run. On Sunday the Pumpkinman Long Course is a half iron distance race consisting of a two lap swim course totaling 1.2 miles, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run. Spring Hill Lodge in South Berwick is the starting and end point of each day’s race.
Expect to see race related activity all week as athletes come to town early to train and as athletes and spectators explore the area’s businesses and attractions. Below is a list of roads that will be affected on the days of the races.
