The results on the Maine referendum questions are in from all around the state. The People’s Veto of the Tax Reform Legislation prevailed and all four bond issues passed. Here are the results:
South Berwick voters trended with statewide voting, although South Berwick voters were less likely to vote to repeal the Tax Reform Legislation and more likely to favor the bond issues than voters statewide.

If I hadn’t been working on a candidate’s website, I don’t think I would have read the original bill and the details of the proposed repeal. On the surface, how could one possibly be against “Tax Reform”. Once you read it (and get over the headache caused by such reading) you see how bad the bill was. Tax miniature golf, but not real golf. Raise income tax rates for lower income people, etc.
So, I’m convinced that a large number of voters did not understand the question and/or the details of LD 1495. Otherwise how could almost 40% of voters support keeping it?
