How to Use the Site
The Left Column of the Site
This site is what is known as a blog, short for a web log. Its main features are dated posts with the latest at the top, with older ones below.
Each post includes a title and then the main body. If it is a short post, the whole thing appears on the front page, but if it’s longer you have to click on “Read the rest of this entry ยป ” to go to a page with the whole article on it.
At the bottom of each post you will see a list of tags (more about those later), the categories in which this post is listed(more about this later too), and how many comments have been made. By clicking on “comments” you can go in and read the comments or make your own comments.
You do not need to be registered to comment. However it is a good idea to subscribe and become a registered user. At some point if the site starts to get too much spam in comments, I may have to institute a “registered users only” comment policy. To become a registered user, go to the Subscribe page and follow the instructions.
The front page of the site shows thirty of the most recent posts. You can see older posts by clicking on “previous posts>>” at the very bottom of the page or you can use the right column to find what you are looking for.
If you ever get lost….
You can always get back to the front page of the blog by clicking on the image of the 236 diner at the top of every page.
The Right Column Helps with Information and Navigation
In the right hand column you will find several features to help you navigate the site:
Pages are stable pages with information about the site and other topics that are always accessible.
Recent Posts list the five most recent posts so you can see the latest without having to scroll down the page. You can click on them to jump directly to that post or you can scroll down the page to get to them.
Recent Comments lists the five most recent comments on the site. You can click on the listing to jump right to that comment. To see all the commments on a particular post go to that post and click on “comments” at the bottom of the post.
Categories-All posts are assigned to a category. By clicking on an item in this list you will see all of the posts in that category. This is a list of the current categories and a description:
- Good Places-information about good places in the area that are not for profit or are natural
- In the News-Round ups of our town in the news media
- Interesting Stuff-just what it sounds like, interesting things that don’t fit in other categories
- Out and About-Posts about local businesses
- Placemaking-General information about town planning and livable, walkable communities.
- So. Berwick Government-Anything to do with South Berwick Government
- To Do List-Listing of upcoming events
Tags - Each post is assigned tags, or descriptions, of what it is about. In the tag area you will see what is called a tag cloud. It includes all of the tags assigned, with their relative size determined by how many posts have been assigned that tag. The bigger the writing, the more that tag has been used. By clicking on the word you will go to a listing of all the articles that have that tag.
Archives - The archives list all the articles that were posted in one month.
Search-The search box allows you to put in a word or phrase and find anything on the site that includes that word or phrase.
